My LCP was dripping with oil when I got it and I used a degreaser to remove it, then applied a lite coat of Remoil to the moving parts. If the gun hasn't been shot in a while, I will clean it anyway every couple of months. As other have mentioned, the caliber and type of ammo make a difference also. .22LR guns get cleaned every trip.
