The full-sized knox county map is a great one, imo. It keeps you from having to use the online one, and is immersive, without having to use multiple in game maps. As stated, Superb survivors is great, but not as a beginner mod. Craft helper is great. Crossbow and bow and arrow mods are great additions. It's all about preferences.
